One of these days I would love to get down to South America and fish the Chinook Salmon
that were transplanted there.
Any members on the forum ever had the opportunity do this trip and fish for them ??

Location ??
Fly Fishing ??
Guided trip ??
any and all info appreciated

Chinooks were also transplanted to New Zealand from California in 1901. They are still there and provide angling opportunities in several rivers. Dont know if they get to the tyee size like in Chile. Anyone ???

I didn't hear about them being transplanted to New Zealand .. Thanks for the info

in Chile its an untapped resource! its pretty amazing to see how well they are thriving! I wish I could justify getting out there.
I have seen some amazing videos on those that have fished them in Patagonia and Chile... Some mighty fish down there.
Their genetics should be brought back to the Pacific north west, California and Alaska.

I'm sure the fish were transplanted from the PNW some where. They were taken to both locations for fish farms. Chile started fish farms and hatcheries many years ago. NZ is also busy with farms and trout were imported years ago for the rivers. All are invasive non native species

Pretty sure Brendan Morrison did an episode last year about fishing in SA for salmon. Reel West Coast.
he did with alcock, sierras and springs they were catching healthy fish for sure only the select few guys are targeting them, including that little fishing show of young guys called alpesca
