Sable fish

Yeah, they're good! A mix of mirin, ginger, garlic and miso paste on top and broiled or grilled. MMMMM MMMM MMM
 
Yeah! I catch mine at TNT when I'm in Vancouver. I've never caught one as incidental. They are a deep water fish. 350 feet plus. Others can chime in on this. They do sell them at Finest at Sea in Vic. A bit pricey though.
 
Lightly smoked and poached in milk-- wunderbar!!!!!! Serve with mashed tatoes and leeks in cream sauce--- Old Brit recipe...
 
Are they easy to catch

I don't believe so. If I remember from some videos I've seen the commercial guys go way out and fish down into 600 feet plus for them. Some of the former commercial guys can probably give first hand info on that.
 
arent these the the bastages that get in the prawn traps?
 
They are very tasty grilled but are quite oily. I got a lot of flare ups, probably would have done better on an upper grill which our old bbq didn't have. Will definitely try again, they are some good eating.
