Ross Swimmer Tails

There's some comment about these lures a few years back up here, but wondering if anyone has been using them recently.

I did some fishing up around Malcolm Island late last September before the chum run, and the swimmer tails were the only lures that caught fish.

Would like to know if anyone else is using them regularly in the East side of VI, and, if so, if you're modifying the rigging in any way.

Thx

Yes I've had success using a glo needlefish hootchie.

What size swimmer tail were you using?

I'm concerned that on the smaller ones even a needlefish hoochie will slow down the action too much.

OK I checked-too bad I can't find the camera it's been a helluva day-anyway......

The 4" have Squirt size (just a cut down Needlefish really), the 5" has a small Octopus and the smallest something I wrapped around a tube.

You can see the Swimmertails in this old photo.

Thanks, that's helpful...appreciate seeing how you have them rigged up.

I haven't used a Ross swimmer tail in many years. At the bottom of the picture it shows a bunch of Curly's Perma Strips. My dad invented those lures back in the late 60's, in fact I still have the original proto type for that lure, hand made with cigarette tinfoil for the reflective parts. I can remember sitting around as a family and every one had a job to do as we put them together and packaged them up. Is there anyone on here that knew Curly or heard of him? We use to commercial fish out of Ukee on the "C-Joy" back in the 70's and 80's.

I got a whole handful of those Curly's permaStrip from the gal at Oki tackle years ago. I never caught a single thing on them. Not even a coho.
