Rod Tip fix ?

Hey, thought id throw this out there ,

I have an old mooching rod that I got from my grandfather, looks to be in decent shape other than the eyelet at the tip of the rod has lost the porcelin ? bit on the inside of the metal eyelet.

Other than changing the tip is there any materials that I could put on it to cover it and avoid line chaffing ? is there a possibility that there never was any there in the first place ?

Cheers !

If you search around some of the rodbuilding forums you can find a tip that will more or less match-they are easy to replace and No there is no real way to replace that ceramic insert as the metal ring has probably deformed.

EDIT-Andy @ Rod Builder's Supplies lives in/near Victoria and could point you in the right direction.

Ya thats kind of what I thought ... its not really worth a lot of work as its quite old, but I figured as a backup it would do. I have a tip from a broken rod laying around. I'll try and find it and try it out. Thanks DB

If you haven't done this yet you may want to check with Peetz Mfg. (Bill Hooson, great guy!) here in Vic. Not sure if he's still building rods or not, you might want to phone ahead.

On the upside, his shop is right down in the thick of things on Bridge St., so while he's fixing your fishing-rod... you could get the other-rod serviced right around the corner while you wait!
