Did a bit of scrapin this year , taught by the best : ) ,

hooked and brought up a few critters to be as Pretty as OBH , with the odd Large thing sticking out of its mouth, and on occasion , a few with pertruding eyeballs ta boot... this caused by negative pressure ,

I always felt bad by releasing the few that would ultimately turn into $hithawk chit...

here is a tool to help get those fish back down to there home , and re compress ,
spoke to the man himself back east , good ole USofA, nice guy , ordered a few for next year ,

this is a old post i found , worth reposting i thought.. slick easy ta use rig...

cheers

I wonder how it would work with a yellow eye with the eyeballs bugged out and its swim bladder sticking out about a foot. Does it just release a dying fish 60 feet down?

There is another tool out there that you insert into the fish just behind the pectoral fin, and it vents their buildup into the air and they swim away. Can't seem to find a picture.

nice ta see a few people interested in this, i always feel bad about seeing a floater ,so have my friends ...
i watched a video with guys using a weighted milk crate and camera , sending fish down with even severe bulged out eyes ,
and a a few that looked like serious **** stars , with a camera directy placed above the crate ,
you seen the fish completely re-compress to normal , even the eyes ,
do what ever makes ya feel good i guess about ur release ,
id rather give em a fighting chance...

Have been using downriggers to decompress cod ever since I learned that the little bastards live to be 150 years old and don't reproduce till 35 years.

I unclip the spreader bar and put the rod line into the release clip first then about a foot of mono with a small hook thru the lip then I let it down to the bottom and use the rod to pop everything off.

Always wondered if they survived but the info here seems to indicate that they do.
Good info.
