Supertramp singer and co-writer Rick Davies dies at 81

Supertramp founder Rick Davies dies at 81, a decade after being diagnosed with cancer

Davies formed the band in 1969 and wrote hits like Goodbye Stranger and Bloody Well Right

"Rick's music and legacy continue to inspire many," the band says in tribute

I was a fan of the Band in their heyday, and saw them at Empire Stadium way back when. It was so loud people miles away from the PNE complained about it after the event. I've gone to see Roger Hodgson a couple of times in small venues locally and he's great. (IMHO he wrote almost all the best tunes Supertramp had.) It's too bad Rick Davies & Roger never got to put the band back together. Supertramp music is best played Loud on a good system (which I have). Bloody Well Right!

In an early interview, the band had said that it was important that they went over well in Vancouver. There was something about Vancouver being a litmus test.

Anyone go to the Planetarium to watch the twinkles to the sounds of Supertramp around 1978? GF's dad said, "I don't care if there are sparrows flying out of someone's butt, have her home by 11:00." It was perhaps the most memorable part of the evening, but we enjoyed the music.
