Richmond Drainage Channels

Seen a few mentions on here about the drainage channels and ditches in Richmond having carp. Couldn’t find any other information about them. Can anyone verify if this is true or not?

I know minoru park had the goldfish in there for a while but haven’t heard anything about any other freshwater fishing in Richmond.

If they had both Carp and Smelt I would be flashing back to my Ontario boyhood.

You don't know excitement until a carp swallows your corn meal ball wrapped in Cheese cloth and you are 12 years old alone in a 14 cedar strip canoe in a swamp.

The biggest issue with smelt fishing is finding the new guy who's mom will let us clean a garbage can full of smelt in her kitchen.

We used to catch them, but mostly brown bullhead catfish along Shell Road from the footbridge across from Thomas Kidd School and also a bit further south off an old wood bridge to a pasture that is no longer there.
Once we grew old enough to be trusted to not drown, we'd ride our bikes to the Fraser to fish for what progressed from sculpins, chub, and suckers to sturgeon, dollies, cutthroat and coho.
Haven't fished in a ditch since 1973.

Good to know might have to throw out some lines and see what happens.

I think Fishing with Rod did a you tube video about it! Good luck if you do find them. Best scrappers out there on the right gear! Only thing I miss about England is the fishing! Well that and the football

Have you checked any spots out yet? I caught some small carp just through the tunnel in Delta's sloughs, but somewhere closer to home would be awesome. Would love to catch some carp, catfish would be even better.

I tried the Finn slough area and had no luck I wouldn’t say there’s 100% no fish in there might have just been a bad day, still planning on checking out the area by Thomas Kidd and maybe a few other spots.

That’s interesting about some carp just through the tunnel, whereabouts? I know cove links had some carp but can’t fish there no more.

Hm good to know. I'm not sure exactly where around Thomas Kidd you would fish but I work near there so might take a look for that bridge. I believe I caught the carp across the street from Eastpoint Park reserve, right by some sort of filter or treatment station. The water was pretty gross, definitely wouldn't eat anything from those sloughs, but they worked well for crab bait.
