Hi I am new to here. I hope that somebody could give me some advice. I have to replace the motor on my boat 165 mercury cruisr.
Will a 351 be able to put in without too much extra work.
Thanks;)

It will go but you will find that there is always extra work and many parts to change. That is why outboards are more popular.[}:)]

Probably find that it wont fit without a lot of wood/fg work. Depending on what boat you have

Do you know what other motor would be a suitable size?
Thanks,
Andrea

I had a 165 and put in a 305 chev with a new leg etc took me a bit as need to do some transom work then cutting then installing new brackets etc etc etc if your not "handy" at fabrication and know how it is a big project.
I did mine over a winter and I bet it took about 200 hrs plus from start to finish. Depending on the boat and being that old as a 165 it nust be a 70s or early 80s boat it may be time to upgrade and spend your money on something newer you can get alot right now in the 7 grand and above range.got to ask your self if you would put 10 grand into a $1000 boat???

Good luck Wolf
