Renfrew in May

Due to circumstances beyond my control, my annual island trip is pushed way ahead this year. Likely the second or third week of May. I'll be in Port Renfrew again this year. But only a week this time. Anyway this will be the earliest that I've fished there. Too early? Probably ok for bottom fish but too early for salmon though? Any words of wisdom anyone? Hoping to avoid a total flop.

The summer beach hugging Chinook show up in Sooke around the 3rd week of May so logic has it that there will be some of these fish in Renfrew too. You will have to put in more hours to have success but I'm assuming you are there to fish so no problem!!!

the salmon fishing can be really good early season, sounds like its good over there right now. bottom fishing will certainly be good. as long as the weather cooperates for you im sure youll have some good fishing.

I was just out this weekend. Halibut were out to the West like LC said and not far from shore. I did see a boat anchored off Owen Point but not sure how they did. Crabbing was good and will continue to be until summer when it slows a bit. I use to fish in a work organized derby the last weekend in May or 1st one in June. As already mentioned the Salmon fishing isn't hot but guys always seemed to get a few per boat and the fish that would win was usually around 25-28lbs....
