Reel Recommendation

Any recommendations for a left hand bait casting reel suitable for float fishing? Considering the B Series Calcutta, any thoughts? Thanks.

Had my Calcutta 250 for years it just keeps on ticking....

Not quite as easy to work on yourself as an Abu but not rocket science either.

I just sold my Calcutta 400b few months ago, Strongly recommend that real!
Wish i didnt sell it :(
Cant beat the Calcutta drag though

Abu Garcia reels- cant go wrong with those either lots of models to choose from (Record,C4,C3,Kalex,BCX Series)
Those are the most common for river fishing

Love my Abu Garcia Record 61.Had it 3 years now with no problems whatsoever. The only thing that's hard to get used
to is the star drag is actually reverse threads on the left hand retrieve models so sometimes in the "heat of the moment"
you can have a brain fart and tighten or loosen the drag when your intention was the oposite.Paired up with an 11ft.
Fenwick HMX trigger stick makes a deadly combo that is perfectly balanced in your hand.

Depends on how much you want to spend. I've fished Shimano's for decades and they make one of the best reels on the market. If you want a high-end level wind that has loads of capacity, it's hard to beat the Curado 300E.

Perfect reel for steel, or increase the diameter of your mainline and go chase big springs in the salt.

I got mine pre-owned on eBay for $ 200 in new condition

When you cast and reel, the words that will pop into your mind are smoooooth....(like butta)

I use an Abu on a Shimano light weight rod with a cork handle can't stand anything but, the foam typehandles take the crispness right out of the rod. The reel has been under water multiple times and is years old and is as good as new Abu makes a good quality product. There are some pretty good deals out there but you really get what you pay for in that style of reel. The reel isn't a monster and the rod really light for big springs but caught my biggest Spring on it in the Nitnat gap 44lbs. The trick with casting reels is of course the bearing but the line is a huge part. Go lighter and play the fish longer your casts will just sail out there with lighter line and you can use a more compact reel with a smaller spool.
