Red Herring fishing rods, anyone?

Trotac Marine - in Victoria - is selling 10.5 foot 'Red Herring' rods (see images).

We fish south of Victoria, Bamfield and Renfrew and don't often get into anything over 20 to 25.

Does anyone know anything about these rods? Do you like them?

I checked them out them last month in the store and was less than impressed- for that amount of money you could do much better.

It'd be nice to talk with someone who has used them...

Until then; do you have any recommendations in that price range ($200 to $250)?

There are many rods under $200 out there that work just fine. Dont get sucked into the nonsense that you have to have expensive gear to catch salmon. Trophy rods are good value for less. And the same goes for reels. Start with a basic reel like a Shimano or Daiwa.. If you feel that after you have gotten the experience to upgrade you gear , then do it. But IMO there is no sense spending a bundle for the average fisherman.

There have been a number of 'recommend a rod' posts here Shimano Technium usually wins on numbers alone people love them for a reason.

I like the Lamiglas fiberglass- tough as nails and not expensive Bass Pro has them.

If you are in there talk to Chris from Rite Angle. They are his product. They looked pretty nice when I looked at them.

My experience with Lamiglas is, pretty good rods, but warranty process is brutal. Rods sent in that disappear in their "black hole" system, up to a year to replace broken rods. Maybe things have changed, gave up on them 15 years ago.
