Reality Check

Lots of squabbling going on in various threads. The reality is Sooke, Renfrew, Bamfield, ECVI and many other spots/areas are much slower than the last two summers. This years fishery is resembling the 2003 to 2013 fisheries. The last two were a welcome improvement. There was a solid decade there where the spots that are dead this year, were just as bad. Over that decade, it was hit and miss until the end of July. So keep your head up, stop slamming each other, go catch some fish and do something to support hatchery programs. Rather than focusing on what is so bad this year, we should acknowledge something went right the last couple. I don't know exactly what that was. This is year is a reality check, let it motivate you to do something.

I am of to Nootka this week for the 8th straight year because it is the only consistently strong inshore fishery this early in the season. The Bamfield, Barkley, Inlet crowd need to relax. Nootka is always a month ahead. The inner Barkley Sound/Inlet fishery for springs in early July has typically not been good since almost y2k; same with Sooke and inshore Renfrew.
