I did some checking around looking for moorage and Westbay was the most expensive at $10.50 a foot. In addition they wanted you to have you boat surveyed once a year which will cost you a few hundred. The seem more interested in float homes than sport fishing boats. My Insurance Company only requires a new Insurance Survey once every five years so once a year seems excessive.
Looks like I will be at Sunny Shores for this year. They also have found a way to increase their income by cutting out the 6 month discount rate. So now it’s the higher monthly rates or the yearly discounted rate, assuming you want your boat in the water for the mid winter storms. I suspect soon it will be very difficult to get moorage anywhere if you don’t get it on a yearly basis.
As for Insurance costs in Sooke, my broker advised they are just a little higher for the Boat and Machinery however the $3000.00 Personal Effects (fishing gear, downriggers etc) coverage that is included in there policy elsewhere was removed from my policy because the boat will be located in Sooke. I was offered the chance to buy it back for $3.50 per $100.00. Perhaps some of you are grandfathered with a better policy. The Insurance companies seem to have an issue with what they see as higher theft rates in the Sooke area. I tried negotiating with them by advising of a number of security upgrades I am making, to no avail.
I was thinking it would be nice if the police had a bait boat/trailer program like they do for cars but I can’t see it happening, at least not till ICBC sells boat insurance.

West Bay just preferes to lease by the slip, not the foot, as every slip is 30 feet long and once there is a boat in it the slip is full. There is something to be said about having your boat in a nice gated marina with liveaboards to look out for your gear.
