Re-powering with a lease return / camp motor

Looking at repowering. Anyone know what shop/dealer on Vancouver Island is likely to be supplying lodges with leased outboards? I'm hoping to find a lease return from a lodge/commercial user who gets regular scheduled maintenance done through their lease.

1-3 year old outboard with 300-800 hours on it.

Hoping to stick with Mercury, but if I end up needing new controls etc. I'm not stuck on Merc, just looking to save cost. Hoping the controls and gauges etc for my 2013 Merc 115 EFI will be compatible with a newer 2020-2023 Merc 150 or 175.

Thanks

Try Bridgeview marine, I now they supply to lodges. also call the lodges direct and ask.

I wouldnt assume they get regular 100 hour maintenence. I worked in lodge environments. Those 50, 90, 115s don't necessarily get treated very well. It's hars to fit in oil changes when the boats go everyday for 3 months and rack up 8 hours on the average day (often run without kickers). That being said, they are resilient motors.

As an example, Bridgeview in Delta will strap it to a crate and ship it to you. They were new the year that they were being sold as lease returns. I am sure they rotate theirs yearly. The oil changes happen dockside with the dipstick style of oil removal.

I would check Alberni Power and Marine and Breakers in September, but also all the suzuki dealers on the island to see if they have any clearance deals on 115 and 140hp engines. They were less than 13k for the 140hp. Suzuki has pretty good pricing, a 2023 Merc 200 on clearance is the same price or more than a 2025 Suzuki 200 (smaller block), so not an apples-to-apples comparison. I personally think some dealer used engine pricing is out to lunch https://gacheckpoint.com/Outboards/adid/31297203/2017-Mercury-F150XL-Port-Coquitlam-BC/

Bridgeview 100%. 8 month old engine and great pricing. I have twin 150’s and will be upgrading to twin 200 lease returns this fall

Your controls will work, may need a harness adapter at most.
Did you find out what big motors are going to be available this fall from them? I have a friend looking for a 250 or 300 Merc.

Ya I've had a chat with Alberni Power, and they dont have any camp motors and no longer serve any lodges for leases, so no dice there. Either that, or the sales guy only wants to sell me a new unit. Either way, sounds like Bridgeview might be the way to go - was hoping to find something on the island, but I'm patient. At least there's an option so far. Will have to wait till Sept/Oct I guess.

They do not know yet, I am on the list for a pair of 200's but they are not sure what's coming. Usually September they start listing for December pick up.
$1000 down holds the motors once listed. As for hours it is what you get but normally between 500-1200 hours and maintained well. They will be 2025 models.

Thanks. I bought one 2 years ago, boat already had a Merc with the controls, cables etc. so the swap was quick, with Bridgeview doing it for me. The earlier you put your deposit down, the lower hour engine you will receive.

Ya, I contacted Bridgeview as well as GA Checkpoint in the Lower Mainland / Vancouver area. Both have lease return options in a number of models. Mostly Yammy and Merc coming from lodges. Seems like they get their lease return / camp inventory back in late August and September, so will have to check back, but they did each put me on their call-back list once they get their inventory in at the end of the guiding season.

Fingers crossed.

When the time comes, will have to sort out what is best - cart my boat down island and across on the ferry, or get the outboard shipped to the island and up to my local mechanic... I imagine shipping won't be cheap, but neither is gas and BC Ferries to get there and back.

But otherwise, sounds like no dealerships on the Island do lodge leases and it's all consolidated to Bridgeview and GA Checkpoint.

Weird, I emailed bridgeview twice this weekand no reply. If anyone has a direct contact fire it my way, that'd be great. Im in town again now and will call monday as well...cheers.
