I am installing new Lowrance Radar in my Trophy 2052. Do I still need a Radar Reflector,to been seen by other boats, or can a Radar set " see" other Radars that are turned on?

Nope. You'll still need a reflector.

Some like it rough...
Others just puke!.

LittleG,

Just curious which display you are using with the new Lowrance radar. Their website didn't seem to say much about this the last time I checked.

Thanks,

The radar is a Lowrance LRA 1500 and I also bought a Lowrance LCX 25C Combo Sonar/Chartplotter with it. Radar is back ordered, and due in a week or so. An upgrade program will come with it to convert the LCX 25C to dislay the Radar, Will allow a 2 or 3 way split screen, or a full screen for any function. Bought it all at the Nikka booth at the Fishing show a couple of weeks ago at Tradex. Lowrance reps. were there, and they gave me the big pitch, and lots of promises. I've had Lowrance products before, without any problems. By the way, Lowrance has just merged or has been bought by Simrad, which will make them an even bigger group.

Yes, you'll still need a radar reflector to have other boats see you!
Buy the best one for your application ,do research!..It really helps.I have seen the diffence with and w/out...Just Do It!! The higher the better for mounting. 10' above the water can only be seen 10' above the water for 2.8 nautical miles!!Due to curvature of the earth!
Radars that 'see' other radars on the same frequency have interference and 'see' less

This seems like kind of a stupid question, but I'll ask it anyway. If I mount my reflector high on my arch beside my radar, will this screw up my radar readings?

It seems logical to me that it would mess with it, and I should mount my reflector either higher or lower.

FishWish

Should be OK.

It will likely be to close to care and not big enough to cast a shadow.
Get the unit up and running then mount the reflector and compare the imagery. If it does screw things up, you can always relocate it.

Very interesting , last summer at Telegragh Cove , I talked too the ACG , ask them the same question about radar deflector , if I needed to install one on my C-Dory , I do have a radar mounted on a stainless arch . He told me that I did not need one but that he will be checking my boat on his radar and let me know if he sees me on in screen. Well he told me that he could pick me up real good , so I ask him again if I would be legal without one if I get stop at night or in the fog, he said that I will be okay?

SEARAM;

It's likely that your arch is acting as the reflector.
But DO get it 'looked' at on a collision course with and without a reflector. Target definition gets tricky on a head to head course with Tupperware. Radar waves bounce off in all different directions or slip around the boat. Leaving a poorly displayed target on the TV.

Just so you know, the Auxiliary Coast Guard are made up of volunteers. Some are forklift drivers, some work on a green-chain, some drive a buss or whatever (?). All great people doing what they are doing - SAVING LIVES!

The one thing they aren't though are Legal Beagles.
