Radar tower lean, aft vs fwd and radar advice

I’m curious to know if there is any reason that I couldn’t switch my radar tower from aft leaning to forward leaning. I was thinking if I reversed the mount to forward leaning it would give me more room to strap things to the roof.

It's all astetic at that point. It's might actually improve the angle looking at your picture. Need to be point downward just a tad. Could be just the picture angle. Just my 2c
I’m going to have to get a new radar. This old JRC 1500 MKII that is shown in pic will be changed. After the outboard conversion and updating the electrical system they couldn’t get the old screen and brains to start up. It’s getting power as I’ve tested the cable but it not waking up. It’s an old system from 2003 so best to just update. For some reason this got me thinking about flipping the tower around.

I went with this as on sale and lodge boat has it and been using for 6 or so years.. and been told can network into lowrance reason i went with this get dome and screen cheaper then dome alone.....

That seems like a good deal. Just a $100 more than the Lowrance dome at Harbour Chandler. Simrad and Lowrance I believe are all compatible, made by same company, Navico.
Here’s info on compatibility with Lowrance HDS Pro 9, (which I have). The two units will share basic data over NMEA but the Simrad does not have Ethernet port so sharing of advanced features does not work. That would be ok though for me.

What ive always laughed and wondered now with the really new stuff as they "go 26 miles" heck thats a hour away I want to know what is in front of me 1/4 of a mile away if not closer... and and that distance (over 20 miles) im sure the deatail on the plotter is very very small.
I want to know the danger VERY close to me... especially in tight areas

If I switched the tower around I’d have the wiring hole in the front, which could get water in it easier. I guess I could find a rubber plug for that hole and then drill a hole on the other side of the tube.

Got the old radar dome off and the 30 plus feet of cable out of the cabin ceiling. It was all coiled back and forth in the ceiling. I was surprised how much cable there was. Could have rigged a seiner.
If anyone needs a JRC 1500 mk2 dome, I have one.

Are the simrad radars blue tooth or cable communication?

Why would you want it?
But with this deal you get the halo20 plus a 9” simrad mfd and transducer that can be sold.

I was trying to save you money. Your in same neck of woods as me. The inside really doesn't get much fog like westcoast.

I only got mine because I spend a great deal time fishing remote areas like Barkley Sound

I don't use mine that often on inside. Only really to monitor idiots in summer honestly. I also rurn it on sometimes to just look at how busy Brechin or Ladysmith is when going in.

I always tell people approach buying those brand new domes with caution. There are more stories of failed ones. Spending a lot of money on something that can fail is something to be cautious on.

I have radar overlay. It seriously is a gamechanger. I am sure you already have it as you have autopilot.

The dome I have in old 3G I bought used from @Derby who upgraded. For like 800.00 it worked out and was able to spend money elsewhere.

For inside boats I think the best solution there is AIS . On inside we get a lot of ferry traffic and also commercial freighters. You can now get standalone plug and play units for much cheaper thar interface with plotter etc.
