Question About the New Gen High Performance Scotty DR

I spent a lot of time dragging gear at 200 - 250 ft when I fished out of Ucluelet last month --- not because I wanted to but that seemed to be the magic depth where I could consistently find the springs

So thinking the depth thing might be a trend in the coming years I just picked up a High Performance Scotty.

The question: are all the New Gen Scotty spools manufactured the same whether they are fitted in the Models designated with the "B" (pre-loaded with braid) or the non-B (pre-loaded with wire)??

I noticed Scotty pre-loads with 300 feet of either braid or wire---in-between tides or when fighting the wind last month in Uke , that would not have been enough braid or wire for me --- so I just stepped up for a 400 foot spool to load on my new Scotty

I ended up getting a non-B designated Scotty (2116)

My plan is to strip the wire off and replace with the braid---- am I going beyond the specs of a non-"B" Scotty spool by loading 400 feet of 250 lb test braid?

I'm not going to part with my old-school Scotty's just yet--- want to see how these high-speeds perform first --- I've already read about spools self-destructing so this has my attention

Thanks for any comments out there

Just a suggestion ... ButI would purchase the new gen rigger (I have two ) and spool them yourself with bulk braid from Wholesale Sports. Far cheaper and a superior braid. You can put 500 plus ft without issue and opt for whatever pound test you like. Its the way to go plus you spool it so you know for sure its tied on to the rigger at the end (Ha!)Hope it helps .

Much appreciated the comments (and the link), Gents. Looks like that new DR is going to need some tweaking---once I'm past 200 feet, it's usually a finger held in the wind past that point as far as depth/scope/accuracy of counter are concerned---part of the problem-- I don't own 15 lb balls and never did. Might be time to step up if the new world order is going to be DEEP

min 400 feet power pro, 200lb test
been using this for 6 years now , thinner , cuts the water better , less blow back
15 lb balls , sum here use 20 lb im sure ,
as far as a trend , fishing 200-250 for Salmon ,on the counters !! this season ??
there were days , periods , and areas for sure , but , most of my fish were 80-130 on the Uki side on average over the season ,
the few times out ta rats was the same , around a 100 - 130 feet for springs...
, which is pretty normal for us .
my 2 biggest springs were in less than 100ft on the counter , at adipose southbank
one thing that will never change , if ya wanna drag up flatties out there ,
make sure you have atleast 400ft on those riggers , once i start getting down to 300 ish , i respool...

the more the better !!

X2 on buying bulk !!

A guy I know has grenaded three spools on his HP Scotty's. He uses 20 lb cannons, and he winter fishes springs atWillows / Shelter run in 250-300 feet of water. His solution? He had a guy fabricate spools made of aluminum. Problem solved. Can't imagine Scotty would warranty these units if they knew that however.
