Puerto Vallarta Tuna Mayhem

Not much time for a detailed report as I'm furiously leaping off the Viking and onto the Maximo for the next week of fishing, but wanted to post up some of these pics in case anyone is interested. The tuna fishing continues to be incredible out at the islands here off of PV. Fish are literally boiling over a twenty mile swath of madness out there, and literally every bait that hits the water gets HOOVERED! If anyone is interested in getting away this winter the local boys down here are really slow and offering some amazing discounts. World class capts like Manny on the El Matador, Danny and his bros of the Osuna fleet, and panga skippers like Lora, and Chuy are all going out at bargain prices just to keep busy. If you've ever wanted to experience a wide-open tuna bite, this winter is the time to do it! Fish are averaging 150#'s, and the water is still in the high-70's and deep blue. The seemingly endless shoals of baitfish like squid, skipjack, and sardines out there will ensure that these fish aren't going to go anywhere once again this season. Nothing like a little holiday cheer from Tuna Claus!

If anyone wants further info just shoot me an email and i'll put you in touch with the guys that i'd recommend down here. Enjoy the pics!

Hey JT..

Nice to see you have that kind of action so close in...weather looks sweet as well.

Guys, with the cheap flight rates to P.V. and the discounted rates that JT highlighted, you won't regret it. I'm shaking my head right now....my dad lives in P.V.and I'm picking him up from the Airport on the 22nd for our Christmas gathering here. He should be picking me up from the Airport with all my rods.....Next Year for sure.

If you want unreal Big Boat Offshore action, let Josh hook you up. If you want fast near shore Panga action with a Mexican guide that loves to fish, works hard, keeps a spotless boat and is right into ultralight tackle, Fish with Lora out of Punta Mita.
We fished 15lb test on Trout Rods and Fly Rods for Dorado, Jacks, Roosters etc. and was insane. Looking at the YFT action, I'd be loaded up a little higher that 15....

Looking at how close the Tuna are in JT's photos, I'm sure these guys could provide a mind blowing trip. Some fresh Ahi for the freezer wouldn't be bad either.....

Thanks again for the update,

J

Capt. Josh - what are the daily rates for a day out on the Big Boat and a day out on the Panga?

Thanks
Stosh

makin a call...hmmm this looks too good to pass up:D

Josh Any xtra Carry on (maybe a cooler) I'm sure some smoked Tuna would make some great Appys .
Saludos...Sammy

Another epic day on the water today. Didn't hit the grounds until after 1 pm thanks to a gentleman's start, but the fish were there and waiting. Highlight of the day was when the boss' 9yr old daughter hooked, fought, and landed a 130# tuna all on her own (obviously from the chair, but an accomplishment of staggering proportions nonetheless). Not every day that you get to see a kid do that. Congrats to Charlise and her 9yrs of whoop-butt for an hour straight today.

Needless to say there's a lot of happy crews and anglers out there these days. I hope this bite keeps going!

Capt. Josh - what are the daily rates for a day out on the Big Boat and a day out on the Panga?

Thanks
Stosh

Most of the nice, offshore charter boats down here that Capts like Danny, Manny, and the sort run average $1,200 a day but this year you can get out there for a lot less - usually under $1,000. Pangas run much cheaper, starting at $600 - 800 a day for the best crews.

The guys that Chad, Jay, and I know and have fished with over the years down here are worth every penny. If you'd like a few recommendations just shoot any of us an email and we'll put you in touch with them directly. I know that these guys would appreciate the business and this bite is truly worth the effort of getting down here in the near future.

I'll keep you guys posted as our trip, and this bite rolls on.

Capt Josh...thx for the heads up. Heading to PV in Feb. Too late?

Just finished up another great week of fishing and diving down here, i'll get a report up in a day or two so stand by, but to answer your question this bite should roll right through the winter as it's done out at the islands for the past few years. As long as the water temps don't get below the low 70's during this year's la nina, everything should be fine.

I'll be down here all of Jan, Feb, March, and most of April so just email me for a up to date report, I'll be happy to pass one on to you.

Nice deal ST! I'm taking the family so you need to add a couple more numbers to that figure for the 4 of us. Leaving room in the budget for the spectacular fishing trip that the Captn' is going recommend however!!

RDMC- I Have fished there in Feb a number of times and I'm sure that Capt J. will get you set straight. If you don't book in advance, make sure you heed the advise of fishing out of La Cruz or Punta Mita that are much closer to the fishing grounds than Marina Vallarta. Somewhat like booking an offshore trip to fish the Big Bank and traveling out from Port Alberni instead of Ukee or Tofino.
Good Luck.

J.
