You guys dont seem to realize that DFO has no data supporting the need for reducing limits and even more ridiculous, a size limit. Here is a statement from WSG.Washington .edu about clam beaches "When adult clams are harvested, the substrate is loosened and the crop is thinned to improve the growth of the remaining clams. " We dont take the small juvenile clams-- its not worth the effort, so it would take a major deliberate effort to eradicate all havastable clams. That isnt happening. As far as shellfish tourism-- I was previously down at the Baynes Sound Rec reserve when DFO checked a minibus load of happy tourists who set up a portable BBQ to cook their clams and oysters on the beach.. DFO found NO violations of the Fisheries Act . DFO is making up a problem that does not exist. And oysters ??? 15 oysters is just a decent meal for 2 people. Again-- no data from DFO to show it is even necessary to cut the limit to 10 /day.
