Property Assessments Now Available

Up $36K in Comox Valley, even though I bought the property for less than the assessed value only 7 months ago...

I've also applied for farm classification this past October. Does anyone have experience with that or know when the applications are approved or denied and how I will be notified?

Up 2% in Port Moody for us. The "Jurisdictional Average" has dropped by 38% in our area. We haven't done any upgrades/renos in 2023-24 so I'm not sure why the assessed value has gone up.

Did you do the work with permits and do everything through City Hall? If not, BC assessment won’t know you did the work.
Even though my area has nothing on file and I could have done it without permits I did use the permit system. I wanted to make sure the work was done to code. Put in a 200amp electrical panel, pre wired for a heat pump and electric charger for a vehicle and enclosed the carport.
My motivation was mostly to get my crap out of the line of sight of the shopping cart bandits. A day of fishing meant 17 trips, X2, loading and unloading absolutely everything from my boat. Now it is 3 or 4 trips and my boat is 99% safe, and it gets a warmish, dry, place to stay between trips.
I should have done it years ago.

******** for me my property value on the island was doubled. I have already filed my appeal. My building value went from 96k to 225k.
I checked many of the properties in my area. The building value went down 10% on pretty much all the houses and the land value went up about the same amount as the building went down. So in most cases, damn near identical to the previous year. Very odd that yours doubled unless you did some major reno work.

That’s the thing in my area values are up a little but for some reason mine is way up with no major changes. Going to be interesting to see how they justify it.

The main ask was to determine if BCA had access to the knowledge of work done, which could have been the reason for a raise in value. (the automatic combing of your local city hall building records to speed up this aspect of the yearly system value change)

Down $27k in Prince George. -$19k land for 165 acres. Had a buyer last year but the deal fell thru because they couldn’t sell their place. Back on the market in the spring. Fingers crossed.
