Price Of a Halibut Trip

Had a call tonight 4 guys want to go Halibut fishing in April, cost in Sooke $500. a Day whats with that, at the price of fuel and upkeep, come on...

doesn't sound like a ligit operator,, or he does it for fun instead of a living? maybe the hali's are in the inner harbour? Or he's got some in his freezer?

There are some cheaper than that. They are the ones that I have never had any sympathy for when they have a major breakdown and are crying at the cost of fixing or re-powering. Sorry but if you are not smart enough to charge rates that reflect the true cost of being in business and with a decent profit for your troubles left over when the dust clears...you shouldn't expect anything less than an empty bank account and a never ending loan payment to keep you afloat. I'm at the high end in Sooke and would like to charge more but I can't because the spread between me and the low end guys would be to large and my numbers would suffer. (even more) They make it hard for everyone to make it pay.

Come on Wellsy match there price. The ears arn't that far away for those fuel sippin zukes.lol I'm getting lots of calls rite now for the vic haly deal and there not price shopin 500$ for half day and 750$ for 8 hours. If people want to pay 400$ or 500$ to go on a all day charter all the power to em but you get what you pay for normaly, and as rollie says wait till they have a engine go it's game over.

Funny thing gave the price and really no problem. They are selling themselves short. Looking forward to getting on the water. Ears here I come

Trev are these guys legit down there in Vic they have all the Qualifications and stuff done? How can they really afford to do these rates? Maybe you guys should be nugging Transport Canada down there to find out if they are scabs? But like others have said people will get what they pay for.. hows the Hali fishing going down there this yr?? Saw some pics u posted looks like fun I miss those days off Vic and Sooke, the Valley just isnt the same for Hali..LOL u have to go North or West.

Most of the guys are legit but have other jobs and arn't trying to make a living at it. Some of them are excellent fishermen and would have no prob getting a better rate. I was thinking about coming back to sooke vic area full time but after looking at some of the prices guys arn't charging lol i'll stick to renfrew except the winter and spring.

I remember when you were just starting out down there when u were younger and I was just getting into Salt water fishing with Shawn Magee and old Lou Smith. I fixed you up with new stainless railings for your boat. You might not remember that far back LOL. Island Outfitters didnt even exist, there werent too many guides back then, eh.
