prawns and fish fertalizer

Sounds weird but I got this from a non-fisherman who has a friend who is supposed to use fish fertalizer as bait. Stupid-maybe not-What if you mixed it up with real prawn bait to soak it up? My wife ( who is an avid gardener) says there are different qualities and viscosities of the liquid stuff-anybody used it or tried it? I use commercial prawn bait plus a couple of cans of carlyle cat food and do okay-but always looking for that never fail mix-what do you think?

I would be worried about the possible chemicals in the fertalizer ( not that I have every done any gardening)

I do know that stuff stink like crap though....

I believe the Alaskan stuff is just fish emulsion. No chemicals that I'm aware of.

I have a friend who mixes Alaska fish fertilizer with his prawn pellets. He lets it soak for a while before use, then scoups the mix into the bait jars. I have seen his results first-hand and they are outstanding.

i know this thread is old but how do you use a.f.f.is it not thick as gear oil.do you dilute it with water???

Spring Fever, you have given your advice freely and I shall do the same for you. There are various versions of Alaskan Fish fertilizer. Most in the stores are "mint scented" for the average gardener. I don't think that is effective for prawns. Go on line to find the straight stuff. As for how to use it, you can try soaking shrimp pellets with it but I'm never sure how much actually gets into the pellet. I've taken to putting the liquid into a small plastic bottle (3/4 full), freeze it, and when you are ready to drop the pot, take the cap off and put it in the bait box with whatever bait desire. It will slowly melt and release the scent.

I have some but never tried it. Instead I use salmon roe emulsified with cheap canola oil and it works better than anything I have tried. Latley though im just using 1 can of carslyle tuna per trap and it works great so KISS.

I'm sure it works but I avoid anything that is going to stink up my boat and traps.
Used some oils before and could not get the smell out. Traps stunk like rotten fish when I stored them, boat was a mess.

Cat food mixed with prawn pellets gets limits. No need for stink.

Same reason I use chicken backs for crabbing or salmon scraps that I cut into proper size before freezing. Into the trap frozen. No mess.
