B.C. Hydro is now in the process of installing new power lines through Tsawwassen and across the Strait. These new lines will have 230 K.V. which is about double of the old ones. The question has been raised whether fish could be getting damaged by all this electricity in the water. Perhaps Hydro should be forced to install a giant Black Box? If anyone is an electrical engineer or wants to be I would sure like to hear opinions on this.

And maybe we can get them to tune it up so it attracts springs too. Then we only have to fish in a straight line from the Island to Tsawassen.;):D They could even take that a step further and tune it for sockeye in May/June and cohos in October.[8D]

Seafood, eat it, then catch more.

Shouldn't be any different than the older cables as far as generated EMF(electro-magnetic field). The high voltage lines have a concentric wound conductor in the sheath that acts as a drain for stray current that is generated. The field still exists, but any voltage will be contained in the cable.
These cables are also along the sea floor, which is quite deep, and unless these fish are 600ft deep they probably wont know they are there.
The greatest concern I see is that these cables are constantly pumped with oil to maintain a waterproof seal and unfortunately, leaks do happen.I will feel better knowing that these old cables(whose working life ended almost twenty years ago)will be replaced.
