Question regarding coming out the river from the marina, What is the lowest tide you would come out from the marina without the fear of being grounded? and how is the sand bar at the mouth this year? anyone been out? know if they going to dredge this year?
I quess that depends on how much water YOU draw? Since I draw 1'8" with engines up, I wouldn't want to try it with less than that and I would want to have an incoming tide! The sandbar isn't a problem if you go around it!
I usually don't play unless I have about 3' of water and an incoming tide.
right on...I have a 19ft seaswirl so i am guessing i need a couple feet. Last year I went on an ebb tide and it must have been lower than 3ft tide. It was in mid-june and got beached in the river. We all had to get out and push. Not much fun at 5am in morning. Good way to wake up though.
If you are concerned, or the tide is in fact low, follow one of the guide boats or someone else who is experienced with the river. Your position in the river is key if the water is low. You want to stay right around the first bend and then slowly cross to the left hand side after rounding the corner.
Bud and Rex are always very helpful and will let you know when it is safe for you to get out.
The bottom line is...common sense will get you out safely.
There is nothing more emberassing than running aground and stacking up boat loads of anxious fisherman.
Just like cheating on an exam -- it is only successful if the person next to you is smarter than you. Be careful who you follow!
I've been thankful not to be standing waist deep in the river pushing....yet....but I've seen it done. Fishing all day in wet feet...a day to remember.
3 foot is the good safe number I heard, but 2 feet in a little tinner, no worries.
Pushing in the river does suck , especially, when you can't push off the bar, so you get back in the boat and wait the FULL cycle right through a full negative tide. Really sucks I hear
