Port Angeles Fisherman

I took the Coho yesterday to Port Angeles. I was surprised to see 20 boats in front of their break water fishing at noon hour. There may have been more. The weather was really ugly. Whats going on over there that doesn't seem to be happening in Victoria. As we left Victoria harbour, there were zero boats on the water front ?????

President's Day weekend blackmouth derby.

Season opening celebration??? I don't know as derbies don't do anything for me.

first salmon derby started saturday and goes through tomorrow, huge area to fish, all the way to the border, SJ island over to whidbey and down past port townsend. this am, ladder fish was 17.6# chinook. all submitted fish have to be clipped.

That explains it. Some of the rollers entering Port Angeles must of been 8 feet high. Not that bad at the break water, but, pretty rough off shore. You gotta be hardy to fish in that environment. 17 lbs is a decent fish this time of year. Thanks for explaining....

if you make this crossing enough, you will learn that the rollers always set up just off of ediz hook, sort of an interesting phenomana.
