Pool Salt

I hate paying $5.00 for a 1kg box/bag of salt. Anyone ever used Pool salt 20kg for $7.98 at CT?
I just spent $38.00 for a lb of spot prawns and I'm trying to get back on budget. Plus I have a fascination wth catching fish with homemade, bargain bin, garage sale or otherwise alternative gear and tackle.

Salt is salt-I use the cheapo stuff from the bulk foods store and it works just as good as the Pink Himalayan.

Umm - that 'rock salt' in water softeners is not usually salt ( NaCl ) it is Potash ( KCl ) - I have access to thousands of tons if anyone wants some - ha
They are related chemically so no doubt it firms the bait.
I used pool salt last year when my rock salt ended up in the pool ( seemed like a fair trade ) I like it better for dry brining anchovies and it dissolves faster in water when you mix fresh brine.
BTW - MSG from food wholesalers works too

Interesting on the Sodium Chloride. I haven't paid attention to that. Where's best place to buy it in bulk?

I usually buy it at Canada tire or super store etc.this time of year. Road salt-should be by one of the big salt companies-read the bag-make sure that's all it is-nothing added-like urea or anything else you can't pronounce.

I just get the rock salt in bulk at the bulk barn westshore...good way to go
I use pool salt with no problems. If it's safe to put on the human body it should be good for fish. It's also a nice fine granulation in the bags I've bought, I'd say like table salt, compared to other forms of salt.

Pool salt is actually just standard NaCl, sodium chloride, better known as the common table salt you sprinkle on food. The difference is that pool salt comes in a larger grind - like Kosher salt, sea salt and pickling salt.

The bag I got from C.Tire was very fine granules. Worked the same and was cheap. Should last for 5 more summers but I don't fish bait that much.
