poets nook bamfieid

have not yet this year but many in the past,, june is my favourite, done really well at south bank in may... springs are crazy and still purple like winters.

I have fish in early June for a number or years some are slower than other but have had some great days. With a strong Columbia run the outlook is looking good for June in the sound

The last few years we have had a good 2 week window in June that has been some of the best Spring fishing I have ever seen inside Barkley Sound. Last year it was in the middle of the month for us with Limits of good sized springs within a stones throw of the cabin all before breakfast time. It's the only time of the year for us that we try fishing inshore before heading offshore even if the weather is perfect. Southbank to Long beach have been our go-to offshore areas in May-June.

Any way you slice it, can't go wrong with heading to Bamfield or the nook at any time of the year, its bound to be a great time!

For the most part the June fishery around Bamfield is, a best kept secret. Mostly Washington and Idaho bound springs, with a few Cowichan and Chilliwack fish in the mix. Expect to catch a limit of fish ranging from 8 - 20 pounds but quite a few times I've caught 40# plus fish in June! I've had 60+ springs in one day at Kirby Point.
Coho show up right about the middle of the month, and some years they never leave.
And very few boats.

You run all the way to Long Beach bank from Poet Nook - aren't there equally good banks a lot closer to BamTown?

Ukee

Ukee

Fish out of Cabins in Julia Passage and off Tzartus Island. We've always done better further north offshore in the early season so we often stay in Julia and fish south bank/longbeach and get fuel in Ukee.

I was referring more to my experience fishing inshore at that time of year though in this post as it is relevant for the nook

Wondering when people think is the best time for inshore fishing around bamfield? I only get a couple days so I'd like to try maximize them. Takin my wife and a friend who dont deal well with big water. Was planning on heading there the end of July, should I be going earlier??

prime time is usually last week of july, first week of august.. I guess because the local bigger fish are inside.. I enjoy june more tho.. Less boats and more feeder type springs, which are delicious!!!

Like BOD said, June is one of the best kept secrets in Barkley Sound. The fish can come in hordes and hot to feast on needle fish and herring. Couple of seasons back I ran into some large schools of anchovies and the fish were just on fire. The June fish tend to be concentrating on bulking up, so can be pretty easy to catch at times....and as someone pointed out already there isn't much boat traffic which makes for nice fishing.
