Pleasure Craft Licence-owner?

Hey folks I was just curious if there was a way to get an owner name from a pleasure craft License number on the bow?

Cheers,

i have to ask... why? i think the coast guard can access that info but us lowly citizens? i dunno.

As a private individual why would you have any right to breach protection of privacy legislation and the privacy of a boat owner anymore than you would for the license plate number of a vehicle unless specifically permitted in legislation such as for police officers or others for the specific administration of legislation?

Suspect it is the same as a car license plate. If you have a problem you can use it to identify the vessel to authorities, who have access to the licensees particulars. Only problem is that many used boats aren't licensed in the current owners name.

Yep there no way to know if that someone put the hull number in his name.

All hull numbers are suppose to match owners and proper paper work is suppose to be in the boat at all times. The authorities are starting to check. Government wants there taxes.

Roger that!, pretty sure they are issuing fines to people for not having boats licenced properly , I keep a photo-copy of the boat licence and bill of sale from previous owner in the boat at all times, and if they are checkin my POS boat then chances are you could be next. the fine for un registered boat I believe is around 275$

lol easy.......long story short:

Buddy of mine has a pole barn on his property. last year a random guy gave him some cash to store a boat on his property. said he would pick it up in a couple months. Didnt leave info other then a number and a first name. Number out of service lol. Just wanted to try the easy route first. Thanks for the info everyone.

Your friend has a dilemma. All sorts of issues, risks and possible responsibilities with that scenario and he may even end up needing legal advice, especially if the boat has lots of value. Not on a trailer with a plate, I take it? Bet he won’t be doing that again, especially with collecting so little information.
Your friend does not even know if the boat was stolen or does not have clear title, or if it was an untraceable prepaid burner cell phone number. He could run it past the RCMP and see if they could be any help.

Worse yet, maybe there are drugs or illegal firearms in that boat or the guy's ex-wife :D

Or a six pack of Lucky, a gallon of stolen Maple syrup and a knock off hockey jersey lol

Does the boat have K numbers on it?
Did he go into the boat to find registration and maybe it was registered?
Is it on a trailer?

What kind of boat is it? maybe someone on this bored might know the fella.

I love this forum, some of you guys get right worked up over nuthin. I do realize the situation but he still has a couple months anyway. He dropped it off in november. we will give him a while. Its no where close to getting are panties in a knot yet.

As for the drugs in the boat: the ones that were smokeable are smoked and the rest we traded for whiskey. We traded the guns for a couple MR3s and a down rigger. The coyotes and the eagles took care of his x wife. So were golden now!

Just thought there might be an easy way to get this guys name, but were not desperate yet. In a couple months I will ask the police if they can help if it gets to that. As for now Ill consider this thread closed because I got my answer about the License lol Thanks everyone!

It's been a long winter I'd say. 1400 people looking at keeping toothpicks dry speaks volumes.
