painting transducer

You guys ever paint anti foul on your transducers?
Barnacles seem to love them.Does this effect your readings/signals?
I painted mine on the weekend but mechanic was over today and says 'sand it off!' says copper will effect signal.
what to do?

I had one painted, I never noticed. Most transducers are meant to be siliconed to the inside of your hull in the bilge and shoot through, so a couple microns of paint should not hurt. You don't want it rough tho, no turbulence or bubbles.

Never painted one.... but if you can shoot thru your hull, which has bottom paint on it, it seems hard to beleive that the paint being on the transducer would be any different as the wave has to pass thru the cupperic medium in either case...

i`ve noticed quit a few boats have the ducer painted and never heard of any problem .
