Paint for Pod?

Looking to touch up an alluminum pod that has flaking / peeling barrier coat while I am re-mounting outboards. Any recommendations for paint?

If it’s a full paint job Media blast or sand to bare metal, conversion coat then epoxy prime and top coat above waterline with a quality polyurethane follow up with your bottom paint. Need to do the media blast and conversion coat same day or you’ll want to acid etch. Look into alodine/alumaprep.

Alternately if your just doing a touch up sand the area with 40-60grit until all flaking is gone air blow/wipe clean acetone or similar to ensure grease and oil is removed give it 15min and put a good epoxy primer like interprotect (easily available) there are many others. Make sure to follow the instructions on the epoxy they often need to be mixed and left for 10-20min before ready to apply.

Aluminum coating is time sensitive so whatever you’re doing just make sure to be prepared and ready to move through the steps smoothly. follow the instructions on whatever product you choose, a space heater in the pod to keep the surface temp up helps this time of year.

Do not use copper based bottom paint on aluminum without a substantial layer of barrier coat (epoxy) underneath and keep a border around your outboards mounting area of 3/4-1”
