Pacific Wild

I recognize there were a whole host of reasons that forced Trudeau’s thumbs down to the Enbridge Northern Gateway pipeline project but give Pacific Wild some credit for helping to keep tankers full of dilbit out of the Douglas Channel and Camaano Sound.....the projected level of tanker trips that would have been made through that part of the world was mind-numbing .....Queen of the North on steroids

I remember when Ian was associated w Raincoast Conservation and they went around telling everyone naive enuff to listen they were the 1st ones to notice that wolves ate salmon. He then got himself booted out of Raincoast and started another McAllister fan club - Pacific Wild. That scenario is unfortunately common in some ENGOs - where a toxic, egotistical, malignant narcissist creates or joins a high-profile profitable ENGO - and after taking advantage of either funders and/or volunteers long enuff - gets the boot - and then goes and recreates the same profitable revenue stream/fan club to continue business as usual. Paul Watson is yet another example - where he got the boot from Greenpeace and went on to create SSS.

Pacific Wild contributed to the anti-Enbridge campaign and/or the CEAA panel review - but so did dozens of other ENGOs both big and small, and many hundreds of individuals w/o their own person fan club or public acknowledgement with associated financial rewards. Too much hero worship out there. Too much BS.

When the narwal puts out a hit job on one of its own, You know it has to be bad. Narwals probably had reports of this stuff for years.

Your last statement is pure speculation, the fact is Narwhal is arguably covering the environmental beat better than anyone else in Canada. Kudos to them for covering the storey and keep up the great work.

yeah of course everything on a forum is hearsay and speculation but what people have known about this dude in the industry for years the narwal would of had to keep its hands over its ears to know nothing of it till now.

More importantly tho it shed lights on how some of the donations made to these ENGOs are used for nothing more then wilderness getaways for its members. Great gig until you run into a creeper like this dude.

Shows money ties back to tides canada, even a disclaimer at the bottom saying narwal gets some of its funding for the same sources.

one big happy family

I don't think you can use the same broad brush against all ENGO's and the fact is the Narwhal broke the story so good on them for doing it. Now if we were to apply same broad brush strokes to the commercial side of sports fishing I am sure there would be more than a few stories that have come out over the years. That being said there are many decent hard working individuals in that sector, FN and of course residential anglers so it would not be reflective to apply those generalizations would it?

" Yup-- as a DFO tech in the 70s I witnessed 2000 pinks that had staged at a creek mouth of a small system in the Central Coast during extreme low water flows killed by wolves in one night , YES-- one night. All that was eaten was the brains . But in one week the area fed the other fish eaters that were attracted to the area. Great clean up crew....eagles, crows, grizzlies, black bears, otters, seals etc. And guess what ? The local FNs and others living in the area didnt even give it a thought. They knew that these events happened.

Exactly, Bryan. The BC16s even recorded predators like wolves way back in the 1920s - let alone the extensive thousands-years old aboriginal history & knowledge as you mentioned. But it appears that those realities & acknowledgements were seen not to add to the willingness to eek money out of donors to give money to Raincoast & Ian. Teamwork never seemed to be of any interest in how they operated. Royalty doesnt like competition.

And there was extensive debate about why wolves only eat the brains: some inexperienced academics floated the theory that wolves were actively avoiding parasites w/o any acknowledgement that bears & other mammals (e.g. seals, otters) don't have the same compunction to avoid parasites. I believe that wolves crave the fatty tastes and composition of the brians - as they chew up plastic left within 1m of the ground level.
