Interesting read. Glad to see some doing well not good tgst some are still struggling. Also before someone says it the trends up or down, do not seem to be related to parts of the coast with or without fish farns.
Yet the report clearly states that open net fish farms DO have a negative impact on wild salmon right in the summary of the key findings of the report (from page 113):
“AQUACULTURE
Open net-pen salmon farms pose several risks to wild salmon, mainly the introduction and transmission of pathogens that can impact wild salmon health and survival. Other potential impacts include environmental contamination from chemical use, pollution from feed and effluent, and direct interactions (predation, competition) between farmed and wild salmon."
When a well respected and balanced organization dedicated to the preservation of wild Pacific salmon has reported the negative impacts of open net pen fish farming for years it is beyond me why some people still support this industry in its current form.
Yet some runs of different species are down in the North and the same species are up in the south ..... go figure...... bigger factors at play for sure.
