Overboard losses?

Thought it would be fun to have people share what they have lost overboard during this season.. Myself, knock on wood, I have lost little this season. I am obviously getting smarter, lol. But in saying that just a few days ago lost a DR ball, 10 lbs and clip, only ones this year. So has been a good year for me. Broke off flasher and teaser head to seal, but I dont count that as my fault.. Please share...

Hadn't lost any DR balls all season til two weeks ago. Then lost two in a week! 15 lbers, snubber and a clip on each. Ouch! ...I had just changed the wire on my rigger. Used Delta/Gibbs wire instead of Scotty to save $5. Oops.
(PM you soon FA! LOL)

Best one tho was in Nootka last month. My brother-in-law changed his leader/anchovy head after landing a fish. He setup a fresh chovy in the new head and tossed it overboard. ...you guessed it...forgot to hook the leader's bead chain to the flasher. Had a good chuckle watching the rig sink into the abyss behind the boat.

My buddy did the same last year - changed flasher hootchie combo and chucked the new rig, my brand new purple onion flasher, over the side without snapping it onto the mainline, doh!! This year first trip out caught an undersized ling and got to use my brand new long necked shimano fishing pliers (Christmas present from my daughter) - worked like a charm, fingers no where near those nasty teeth despite bait deep in the mouth. Chucked them into my spare/used gear bucket in the motor well a little to exuberantly and one bounce and into the great blue and bye, bye!!

Ukee

First trip out this season; lost 2; 15 lb balls and 2 clips; running 3 year old braid on my downriggers; one side popped and then 5 min later the other; so now I know that I need to change my braid at the end of the second season! Who would have thunk it would happen that close together and on the same day; but made me change my braid and not another issue all season!

Last year at Nootka I watched a father and young son in a tinny playing a fish...the son extended the handle on the net and and netted the fish and - you quessed it - the handle came off! The fish took off across the surface in the net with the tinny madly chasing...they almost caught up when the fish escaped and took off for parts unknown...the net did the same!

I lost a flasher and a hootchie on Sunday to a guy who cut across my lines. He was nice enough to wave as he put the setup in his boat and proceded to troll away from me.

Heres what put in the drink so far

3 x 15lb balls
200ft power pro braid
4 prawn traps

Too many lures and flashers to list.

- The most perfect cut plug bait of the day, brand new leader, threw it over, oops! Classic - forgot to clip to the mainline, along with it went my last bead chain.

- 1 DR Ball this year.

- A few flashers, one time I was reaching to hook it on my mainline, slipped, and dropped it in the water, felt like a clumsy idiot.

- Cheap pair of Aviators, thankfully not my nice pair of sunglasses.

- Bouncing rigger ball, snapped the last flasher off the end of my Kone Zone dummy. Choice words for the skipper monitoring the depth change! Not like that POS $50 flashy thing has caught anything yet anyways!

Better than someone I know though... All their years of fishing, lost a setup with an MR3 reel. Yikes, that hurts just thinking about it! Happens though

I haven't fished that much this year but I've lost just one 15lb ball with clip and tackle. I got snagged in West Van and got my braid DR line cut at the 60' mark. So my Scotty now zeroes at 60' according to the gauge. I have to do mental arithmatic and subtract 60' from the reading when lowering my rig now. I know I can open it up and manually reset the 0 mark, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

2 x 12lbs cannon balls, snubber n clips
4 x prawn traps all to the rope snapping rotten I guess
lots of hoochies
A part of my nice stainless BBQ

Not on my boat, but my buddy was cruising out with his rod in the Scotty rod holder I guess it vibrated lose and flipped down he lost his MR3 and a technium he lost lost 2 cannon balls that day and a few other things we guessed it at a $1,000 day and he got skunked.

Geez, I fish with Spring Fever and have lost THREE BALLS in ONE TRIP........!

SS

Penn rod and reel out of the Radar arch rocket launchers-little too exuberant to get a salmon rod out and they hooked up and out flipped the Penn. Silence was deafening. Non- floating hali harpoon -over side while cleaning garbage off back deck-crewman replaced it with a floating one . Set of leatherman pliers on a coho release at cliffe point, Cannon balls, Kone Zone daisy chains ,delta anchor, sunglasses, regular glasses, hats-you name it-we've lost it!! When you've been at sea as long as I have you lose a lot-I learn but it seems to be a slow process. I was going to say virginity but can't remember back that far-beside-don't think I lost it-kinda gave it away!!LOL

I seem to have a bad habit of throwing the red pin from a teaser head over with or before I throw the leftover head over. Still trying to figure out why I keep doing this. I just look down and its gone! Thank goodness the pack of spares is cheap!

Lost numerous clips before I switched to braid with the knotted gangion stopper this year and one cannon ball at aldridge.

Threw a brand new flasher and anchovy rig over board. Lost a couple of rods. Lost my new orca rod holder on first trip, because I didn't change to locking swivel base. Watched a friend throw crab trap over board with no rope or float, then on same trip, ran over line on another trap as in drove away, and tore line off trap. Got to keep the rope and float though, lets see what else... Do jigs count, cause we'll be here a while.....oh yah and a few hats.

Overboard Losses

I thought I had avoided any losses till last week when I took my father in law out to Sooke. He has fished with me before but he's getting a bit senile. I gave him a rigged rod and told him to throw his gear in the water. I watched in amazement as he threw the rod, reel, flasher and bait overboard.
We made up for that problem 2 hours later when he said hey there's a net floating in the water. Sure enough it was a landing net so I hooked it with my boat hook. There was a 12 lb Chinook swimming in the net bag still attached to a flasher and trailing a rod and reel. Don't ya just luv Karma.
