Osoyoos Lake Sockeye - underwater

When I was out fishing for Sockeye at Osoyoos lake I put an underwater camera down 50 feet on the downrigger and this is what was going on down there. Not sure where to put something like this. I'll have to check out the underwater videos of sockeye still in the ocean, but these guys look a little sluggish. Just chilling in the lake or something.

FWIW-I think that hootchie in the video might have too much action for those slugs but who really knows they aren't easy to figure out.

Leader looked a bit long, no? For Sockeye that is. Dodger was going nuts but little action on the Hootchie/Spin n glo. Maybe trolling too fast? Would like to see how a flasher with same length leader and a slower trolling speed would look. Great video though.

This exact same set up on the other line caught me a bunch of sockeye that day. I just think they were a little turned off later in the day already.

I just used what I saw worked on another website which was the dodger and 13 inch leader with a hoochie. I added the spin and glow cause I had some luck with it on the kokanee. But maybe that was a mistake and I might have done better without it. Guys were also catching them on a flasher with an 18-20 inch leader. I tried the flasher but didn't get a bite so stuck with the dodger. I vary my speed all over the place from dead stop to 1.8 mph on gps. Next time (next year maybe, I might just have to put the camera down first thing in the morning and see if I get some actual hits.

It looked longer than a 13 inch leader but hard to tell really. I think you are right about the bite being off as they were definitely following it with intent.

Optical illusion I guess, but I tie them up myself and measured it on a tape measure. Next time its going down early to catch some action hopefully. Had the same luck at Mable Lake for the Chinook, had three check out the lure behind the camera but no action, they all turned. The second one is a little hard to see but looked like a big one. How to you guys catch chinook in Lakes?

a guy i work with caught one this year in kamloops lake using a large apex on a flasher... around 30lbs... i bet using an anchovie would work.. lol. prob not legal though...

Maybe some scent might work? Those fish have travelled a long way and they tend to spunk up a bit when they hit the lake, but we use roe and scent in the rivers for fish that have pooled for a while.
