Hey Guys,
Looking for some input on SS bbq's, hoping to get one that mounts in the flush mount rod holders on the gunnels
any recommendations on models? the good, the bad and the ugly, personal experiences etc....all welcome
Thanks Tim

Hey Tim,

I just picked up the Magma A10-918LS with the Level lock All Angle adjustable mount.. Slides ride into your flush mount rod holders. The mount works awesome very quick and easy to get the BBQ level and and the little propane bottle sits snug on the gunnels... See links

cool that's the exact one I was looking at, did you get the shelf extension for it too?
I like that mount system it is the same one I use on my cleaning table, quick, easy and stable too that's kinda what gave me the idea of a BBQ mounted the same way would be a nice addition
have you had a chance to use it yet? curious if they work ok
thanks Tim

I didn't get the shelf extension.. I never saw it in the Western catalogue.. If I did I prolly would have bought it:D The BBQ & Mount works awesome. Used it for the first time at Thraser last saturday.. Cooking burgers while fishing loved it!!

I store it in a small duffle bag and fits in one of the storage compartments in the cabin. It's a big enough BBQ but small enough to store when not in use.

BTW - Your new rig is pretty sweet!! Congrats!! You passed me at the Bell bouy on Monday on your way to Thraser..

cool, I'm going to grab that one right away then,
what boat are you in now? I remember seeing a newer trophy fishing the bell was that you?
then I thought I seen it again awhile later over at thrasher?
yeah the Grady is a pretty sweet boat, love the ride, so comfortable with the big beam
tried to outwait the 2 footitis but gave in to the urges, so glad I did.
the explorer was a great boat and served me well, its now out there with a new owner just not as much.
thanks for the insight on the BBQ I owe you a burger lol

Do it.. You won't regret it..
I'm in a new 2152 Trophy Pro hard top.. Name "Tangled Mess"

Just fished locally on monday didnt make the trip over..

Just don't buy the Kuuma Stow'n'go - I bought one of those last year, and as I see it, it is little more than a flame thrower with a lid.

I think the Infared is a good bet..no flames to deal with..but you still get nice grill marks...Does that BBQ do take-out? cause i could pull one rod and raft along side...

If the grill is on pull in behind and I'll float a plate back to ya, but geez don't ever pull your rod for a burger :)

Hey Tim I bought the magma cabo from west marine on a half price deal about 4 years ago, Its been a great addition to the boat and cooks steaks just great. The grills come in 3 pieces for ease of cleaning in a small sink only problem I had was cooking on the bow rail rod holder and the damn thing spun an the rail, needless to say I stopped cooking up front.....lol Good luck and happy cooking.

Many thanks guys.
I ended up buying the Magma Newport infrared with a bunch of accessories as Gypsy recommended, broke it in at home tonight and hope to be fishing and BBqing across the pond on Monday, tides and currents aren't looking too favorable tho
again thanks for the advice on the BBQ

Hey guys,

Word of caution using the Magma rod holder mount for the BBQ. You'll note that there is a single bolt that makes a friction fit to the BBQ clamp.

Had a beauty fresh spring fillet cooking on the BBQ at the dock along with some roasting veggies. Enjoying a beer and a sunny evening. Went to take the meal off the grill and the whole BBQ flipped upside down and dumped all of the contents into the pacific -- grill, ceramic briquettes, heat deflectors and fillet. Friction clamp bolt evidently came loose.

I now use post-mounts that I have drilled into the gunnels. Keeps the BBQ completely stable and locked into place.

Had to take it back today and get another one, I seasoned it the other night with some burgers and a while later when cleaning up I pulled the
gas valve and bottle off as this one comes off that way and the damn valve wouldn't shut off tight so when I removed it I still had about a 5" flame
coming out of the valve:mad: checked out the new one as soon as I got home and its all good

I have had and been using Magma for many years and highly recommend. The one on the boat worked so well, I even bought another to use at home.

After many years of use... what you will eventually like the most about Magma is "
All replacement parts are in stock and will be readily available."

Agree X2 I started with the same mount and put the bbq away each night. Now I have it mounted across the stern with the two post mount and like it much better. Magma Newport here.

This is probably the most ghetto way to do it, but Scotty makes an accessory that is basically a plate with four holes that mounts directly into a flush mount or side deck rod holder. It's meant to mount to a sounder or something. I just drilled 4 holes into my Coleman camping BBQ, put a little heat shielding in, and viola, boat BBQ on a budget! Seems just fine in the wind too.

I'm all set up with the infa red magma system,so you boys on the thrasher side tomorrow don't wanna get down wind of me or you may get a little smoke in your eyes
