The keystone pipeline is nowhere near BC. Hundreds of miles away at the closest in fact.
Does anybody here own a boat that burns gas or diesel? Doesn't sound like it. Probably no cars, furnaces or air conditioners either. Grows there own food without tractors or power? If so, feel free to protest oil development. If not then you are the one creating demand/necessity for the oil. If the oil doesn't come from Canada it comes by boat across the ocean or via American pipelines across the US. No difference.
Wrong..... The bitumen in the keystone pipeline is for export to China not for US consumption. Same with the Gateway project. To say that because we use oil therefore it's OK to ship bitumen to China a weak argument. But then again I suspect you know this and have your own agenda.
refined products are destined for China or any market that has the bucks necessary to make the purhase. with the US now producing more petroleum products than are being consumed, export is in full swing. the tar sands is destined for China or other asian markets just as soon as the refining process is completed.
A quote copied from the USEIA (Energy Information Administration).
"EIA is not able to track how much domestically produced crude oil and other liquids are exported in the form of refined products. The small quantity of crude oil produced in the U.S. that is exported, nearly all to Canada, may actually be returned to the U.S. as refined products."
Also, the US has regulations forbidding oil exports. None to china allowed.
"Crude exports are governed by the Export Administration Act of 1979, which gives the president the authority to ban or curtail the export of commodities thought to be in short supply. While certain exceptions have been granted, most U.S. energy companies are unable to export crude to foreign countries besides Mexico and Canada."
No hidden agenda here. Just facts taken from US government public information. Facts are not used very often in oil debates. Usually just emotion and opinion.
interesting graph, from 2010. in 2013, more product is being produced domestically than is being used. this is due to the expansion of fracking. and as i said, there is no prohibition on exportation of refined petroleum products. what was clear when the pipeline debate first started was the refining capability for bitumen currently exists in Texas and that is the motivation for this entire gong show. there were several articles when all of this first started indicating that contracts for this product had already been signed with China. the tar sands is not destined for domestic use in the US, its an export product at a considerable profit.
