anyone here ever base at either telegraph cove or port mcneil and fish that area?? suggestions on time of year to maximize intercepting salmon are appreciated. thanks.

i worked at lodge out on malcolm island there last year our season peaked around the middle of july, with july overall being the best month for getting springs, cohos were awesome into august last year but most are wild and you gotta let em go

Not sure what kind of boat you are fishing from but up out of Port Hardy you have more access to alot more fishing grounds and a chance of hitting a few more runs of salmon heading south. The bottom fishing is insane, for snapper and lings, plenty of halibut too!

FFG*(,

Sorry to here about your bad luck in Hardy, most guys in the area had the best season they have ever yet in receny history, must have been holding your mouth wrong.

On the topic though if bottomfish are a priority then Hardy would be a better option, if not, you'll get a good hunk of salmon out of Telegraph and McNeill as well. I'd say there are more options for salmon fishing down south...and even though I fish out of Hardy, I think Baronet and Malcolm Island and the whole area is more scenic/beautiful...kinda miss it in a way [:p]

I have to go with wade here, fishin out of hardy would be a better choice, way nicer people there!

No Fish In McNeill, they all turn right at the top of the Island and go to the WCVI and offshore, the only thing you will catch here is Dogfish and Pinks:D

Better in Campbell River and Courtenay, plus you do not have to drive up here and look at all the terrible scenery.........;)

and as Phnapa says, the locals here are mean and do not like others fishing for THEIR pinks[:p]:D

Cheers

i agree as well the one local roland is an absolute terror just the grumpiest man you will ever meet

and to boot, he does the fishing report for the paper.....

Still a pretty good fisherman. You must have worked with him last year.

and I really hope that phnapa is in jest as there is no smiley faces after his comments and we all know what can happen when you do not put smiley/wink/laughing faces behind a statement........;)

The whole north Island is a full of great people who will help as much as they can with catching PINKS:D

Cheers
