Hi im quite new to fishin and want to get started cuse i think i still got some old stuff still lol was wondering some good locations for beginers i dont have a boat btw also wondering on sagestions for baits in those location

im from Victoria

Lots of people shore fish off Ten Mile Point, the Breakwall at Ogden Point and East Sooke Park. Lots of big rockfish to be caught and you can get into salmon at the right times as well.

Back in the day I caught lots of Salmon from shore with an extra large spinning outfit, some 4 inch, wide style Pink Pearl Buzz Bombs and Zilda type lures. Bait casting reels will get you about another 40 yards in casting distance and a five gal bucket with handle is useful for hauling gear down and fish up the hill. Getting good at this kind of fishing and not losing a lot of lures only comes with experience. You will also need a big long handled net, especially with the clipped and slot restrictions and best to find a partner. Playing and netting a big one from shore by yourself is way harder than from a boat. A good spot is still Otter Point and I would suggest trying the east end first and don't fall getting around the big dead tree. Parking can be a pain there.

Too bad there is no place around Vic where you can buy live bait.

You could probably put one on...float it out off a bobber at Ogden point and you'd probably nail a salmon these days.

You could catch yourself some Shiners near a dock or piling....keep 'em alive and try those off a bobber.

my advice would be to try the fresh water scene if you are without a boat... fishing from shore for salmon is frustrating for someone new and you will potentially lose quite a few lures in the spots mentioned. Not to mention it is fairly rare to catch a salmon from shore around victoria these days

I would suggest going to Island Outfitters and picking up a pack of yumyum worms, some bait holding hooks and a floating rapala (if you can spare the $8)

Elk Lake/Beaver lake have some awesome places to fish from shore and you can catch some really nice sized bass that give a decent fight. This time of year can be good to put a yum yum down on the bottom and leave it or in the late evenings try a floating rapala on the surface

Don't remember the name of the charter but it was out of sooke i believe, 4 hour salmon fishing charter for 300 bucks.. not a full day but long enough to put you on the fish and get you fully addicted.. Goodluck , jeff

I used to do this in a $60 dingy from crappy tire. Pick a nice day pack a few snacks and it can be pretty relaxing.

good advise from dfrase. I tried the shorecasting. Trotac has a rod and reel combo a shimano 10000 spinning reel perfect for saltwater shore casting bigger jigs. But gets discouraging losing gear and not catching anything but small rock fish. Sooke is a long way. A lot more action at lakes plus you can go for a swim after.

Thanx guys vary good advice i did find my old rode i think it must bee 10 years old buy now from Canadian tier :P back then they were decent i think in gunna try cupple locations there's apparently a lake on top of triangle mountain im also gonna try langford lake or glen lake

big chunk of dew worm on a bober is always fun, if your going to try casting pick up a couple panther martins..they are fish killers for sure. check out the freshwater section of the forum, can alway learn some good tips there too.

go with some baitholding hooks and a pack of YUMYUM worms... any dark colour and they love it. ask the fish store or google a "texas rig".

cast that puppy out and let it sit on the bottom of elk/beaver/shawnigan lake with a little twitch every now and then. the big bass just love it

I believe the charter is goincoastalfishing? It's okay, but their organization and how they treat the fish doesn't seem the best.
