Stump puller is the old name for this sort of a rig that Scotty has introduced to the market here, they're calling it the ReelEZ which is a dumb a name as ever I've heard but whatever.

The thing is if a person has a Spiral or Robert's Wrap on their rod there's no need for this sort of gimmicky thing but I'm sure some people will swear by it.

I predict an offset model soon, the angle a person has to **** their wrist at with that gizmo would be tough to maintain after 10 minutes or so.

Scotty has either licensed or bought the idea outright. The original developer is from the north island. The apparatus works well and is very comfortable. We had the pleasure of testing it while on a trip to Hardy long before Scotty was introduced to it. I don't use one and more than likely never will buy one. I can however see a benefit for folks who have issues gripping the standard way. Mason

X2 It would make life easier for those that might no be able pull halis up without more discomfort than enjoyment.

Not gunna buy one..................yet:D

... too much digging in holds and fish cutting for me [V]

Just my 2 cents worth , i bought 2 of them (wife and i) and we both think there great. Even if your bringing in a fishing or not it's so much easier, with more rod control. Don't knock it till you try it out on the water.

Hey Dog maybe Scotty should consult you everytime they come out with a product and what to call it. Then when you call it something stupid we know who to slag !

Tournament Proven !

I fished with a rod equipted with a hammer wat-sit in New Zealand . Not impressed. It kept slipping off the butt.

I am trying the Reeleze this year.. Looks good to me if it keeps the rod from twisting in the gimble belt. I will let you guys know in a while.

I have a home made rod but cushion that was simple to make and works great. Simply go to a hardware store and find a plastic T connector with the same inside diameter as your favorite halibut rod but. Then cut some plastic pipe insulating foam to cover the surface of the T connector. Glue the foam cushion onto the T and your set.

I simply keep this thing handy when bottom fishing and when I get a good sized fish on I slip it over the rod but for comfort. Mine fits several of my rods perfectly and doesn't slip off. You can ream out the inside diameter a little if it is to small to fit on your rod butt.

I have purchased similar butt covers online that attach with a bungee so they won't slip off the rod. My homemade rig is the one I prefer and gets all the use though.

Not sure about those, but thought the "Hammerhead Rod Butt" cushion would be useful.
Haven't got one yet but wondering if anybody has tried them?

(As an aside, Dogbreath - how do you 'lift' pictures off a website and include in a posting? Do you have to upload to Photobucket first? Tried copying off the Scotty site, but no go. Thanks.)
Right click on the picture and when the window comes up go to Properties then copy the location (this is Firefox).
Paste the location URL between image tags from the bar above thus creating a link.

My belly is big enough the butt end of the rod fits in nicly. I have no need for this thing.[:p]

Take only what you need.

Agreed, it is a great product. As I have mentioned earlier we got to use it before Scotty got onto it. In fact it was offered a year or possibly two years ago to Scotty. The developer and his wife are nice folk. I often wonder about the things that are posted by Mr.Dogbreath, a few people I know love him, they know him well. I personally don't feel that he is as informed as he would like people to believe, but that is just my personal observation. I am sure we would get along just fine in the real world. Mason

Not to be rude or anything, but are you people limp wristed? I've never had any issue with wrists while fighting a fish.

Take only what you need.

Hey BigGuy, do you have pictures of that thing? Tx

Sorry, I took a quick look around and I didn't find it. It's still packed away with my Hali gear that I haven't used since last year. Not much need for the Hali stuff in Vancouver. i will post if I find it shortly.

I have one on my hali rod. Totally love it makes life so much easier.
I give it 4 stars for sure.

As stated in the 1st post, the spiral wrap or Roberts wrap or Acid wrap solves the rod twist problem. All are the name for the same concept. The 1st guide from the reel face stays the same - all other guides including the tip top are turned facing down like a normal downrigger rod using a knuckle buster. Between the 1st big guide nearest the reel and the next guide now facing down is inserted a small guide at 90 degrees,#8 works fine. It's only function is to keep the line off the side of the rod. I took a couple of old broom stick rods and changed them over. The change in effort required to bring in a halibut or just pull in the weight to move locations is dramatically less. There is zero rod twist. I made a few of these and gave some away in Port Renfrew and the universal opinion was that this really works. Get someone who wraps rods to change one over for you and try it. I believe you won't go back. The one downside is that line tends to pile up a little more on the side of the reel facing the little transition guide. You need to use your finger occasionally when retrieving to keep it even.

Why you fishing with your rod upside down in the first place then?

Take only what you need.

Using a level wind for Halibut, I fish with the reel facing up. Normally this will mean all guides and tip top also face up. I switch all but the 1st guide to facing down. Rod twist goes away. Using a nuckle buster there is zero rod twist. This accomplishes the same thing.

Who the hell would complain about a sore belly or wrist from fighting a fish? Big whaaaa!

Might be good for kids though, I'll call it the junior grip from now on!

Take only what you need.
