Looks like a good product. Newest best thing or flash in the pan?

Interesting. I have one of the originals and like it. If this one is made the same way, could be a winner.

Sure does look like a trophy rell doesnt it.. i do like the colors. So that button on back L.R. i wonder if that is also the free spool?

Looks like it’s just a larger arbor other then that is the same as their other reel lineup but the colors look good

That switch also works for free spool. If I didn't already have Mr2la's I'd be giving these a go...

Do you have actual experience with them? They don’t mention a free spool option in the description unless it is between L and R on the switch. It looks like it has set screws that you have to remove to reverse the retrieve then tighten down again once set.

My buddy showed up with one of the original ones last summer and it has the same switch for left /right and free spool. I didn't set his side too many times , but it functioned as such. Didn't love the size of the switch tho , having a larger lever on the MR2's.... But I'm sure would adapt if push came to shove. If you search the forum , other guy's have them and got them for the free spool option...
Cheers

I mistakenly assumed the switch was a new feature as the Harbour Chandler ad says patent pending and I’ve only handled the DS model which is on my DiL’s rod and doesn’t have the switch.
I now see the old model DH has the same switch and its website description also says patent pending. It appears the diameter of the reel and the arbor size of the spool are the differences in the new ‘high-speed’ version.

I have the older ones been running few years now a lot. Good reels I think they are better than trophy drag.

The switch thing is just to convert to left or right hand spooling. It isn't like the switch on the Trophies for free spooling.

The designer used to work for the same outfit that made the original trophy. He just improved them with better drag system.

This just looks like a custom color change with slightly bigger size . Can't see much difference. The arbor on old ones is already big enough already. Not sure why the went this route.

Brent has been creating and implementing innovations and quality products for decades as a family owner for Redl(Trophy) back in the day and over the past number of years while developing the R3EF rod and reel product range. R3EF offers good quality and is very responsive at troubleshooting. His new 51/4 will be a great add on to his existing range of reels. Like other reels in the market that are in the 5 inch size range, the main benefit is quicker retrieve ratios at depth. Something that many anglers and guides like in areas such as Campbell River, Courtenay, French Creek, Nanaimo, Saanich or any other local area where the primary target species is found at depth. Also good for keeping up to the hogs that are racing towards you when angling on your own or with buddies that are not too sure how to run the boat motor throttle during a battle.

I think Brent was smart in developing this one.

I’ve been playing around with one. Feels big when handling it in the store, but you don’t notice the size at all when fishing. Can beat a high speed rigger up from 250’ with little effort. Drag feels good. Fun catching up to the energetic fish so quick while towing plugs.
I think it’s a win.

See if you can get parts. Trophy parts were not available last time I tried from the manufacturer... luckily PNT had some old ones but they were very expensive. Bearings are easy to get for reels but if you need a drag knob or a drag gear and none are available ..... your reel is obsolete . Something to consider or not. I dont like reels that are throw aways ... manufacturers do.

Trophy and R3EF are two different companies run by entirely different entities. Brent(R3EF) always has parts for his reels, like anything at times he can be low, but for the most part is very reliable in all that he provides to the market.
