Hello All,
I'm a new member, anxious to get on the water in Quatsino. Had a great trip in August, last year. I'm about to upgrade my electronics and get a new gps/sounder. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations. My budget is around 600 or so. Thanks in advance,
Ray

are you looking for chart plotter/sounder ?
i have the garmin 172c which is a plotter only
although you can add the black box to make it a dual unit

I'm looking for a plotter/sounder, a dual unit. I have an older Lowrance loran/sounder that I intend to keep as a back up.

Marula,
Like everywhere else, timing is key. I happened to hit it just right and I heard it was better after I left, but early to mid August is my time for Quatsino. Good weather, good fishing and nice people. The downside, it's a long drive and with gas prices so high, I have to think twice about going that far. So, I'm looking hard at Port Renfrew and points North for this August. As the time grows near, I'll sure be counting on the reports I see on this forum to help me decide just where to go. It takes me 8 1/2 hrs. to get to Vancouver, so it's not a trip I can make on a whim. Anyway, Quatsino is worth the drive for me, but there are lots of great places I have yet to visit. I really feel blessed to have BC as close as it is, particularly VI. Thanks to r.s. craven and scottyboy for the tips.
