Going over to port alberni , see if we can catch a spring or two, going to try anchovy, but don't know how long to make the leader behind a flasher.

6'-7' or longer is usually standard....If you go with six feet you should be fine and it makes it easier to net...Anything longer than six feet is still alright and could be better if the fish are a little flasher shy, but it does make the landing of the fish a little more difficult with the longer leader.....At least that is always how I have fished anchovies.

Where are you going to be fishing?
In the canal I have always done better on rubber than bait.

White and green seems to work.
fish it shallow 30 to 45 feet.
Bait didn't seem to work early this week for us.
I did talk to a few guys that claimed it was there go to setup.
Good hunting.

Fished Port Alberni area yesterday. Had all of our luck on anchovies with 3 foot leaders. Fishing was allright for us, got a 20 pound spring. Heard the early morning ( 5 -7 ) was really good with most people getting 4 or 5 fish. Theres also a couple of coho around, I got one on a pink coyote.

Fished the canal for 3 days limiting every day. First thing in the morning, white hootchie at 20 ft and THE TURD at 30 ft. with 36 inch leader. The amount of boats is unreal so be prepared for crossed lines and some cursing.

Pink hoochies, squirt size, 36" leader at 25' has always knocked them dead for me at this time of year. Out in front of coulsons mill.

Bait show for me....out-fished plastic 2 to 1. Nothing less than 7 foot leaders...troll little faster than most at 2.7 - 2.8 mph. Loads of fish. Problem with plastic sometimes is when the fish are not really aggressively biting they only bump the plastic, so lots of false takes. Bait encourages them to hang on a bit longer giving you half a chance to hook up before they drop it...on those slow bite days...on a hot and heavy bite day you can catch them with a clothes pin and the kitchen sink attached for good measure. Should also try the OLR12R Hoochie, which I sometimes place an MP-15 underneath for effect.
