Nanaimo area Salmon guide advise please

Hi all, I will be taking the family on vacation to the Nanaimo area for a week (July7 - 14)and looking to do some Salmon fishing with my 14yr son,the girls would rather shop.....

Anyways ,I am looking for a reputable guide/charter in the area to take us out for the day,for a reasonable fee,we have never fished for Salmon before so have no idea where to go,just want to get out and catch a few fish!!
I realize the north west side of the island sounds like the place to be for big fish but its a little out of the way from what I can see.

Websites have shown some good fish caught on the east side of the island ,which look good enough for us!!


Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Port Alberni is only 1 hour and Ucluelet is only a 2hr drive from Nanaimo. Chances of getting into some decent fish on west side are much better. Can spend a lot of time on the east side just cleaning the lures. If you don't really care if you get much east side is fine; however if the wife will let you, could head over to the other side eve before. I'd take the family; they can spend day in Ucluelet and you can hit the water. If you haven't done it it is a nice drive too.

What the other poster said about the west side is true. We are getting 20 hookups on Salmon a day on most days - worth the drive.

West coast would be great idea but just remember if budget is tight offshore trips tend to be full day at $900.00-1000 bucks plus the gas to drive there and accomodation. A minimum 6 hrs per morning is possible but still higher cost than half day on the east coast for about $400.00 bucks. Depends what you want. If you want good chance to limit on Salmon and hali - spend the money and go for a full day on West Coast

i'm sure some one charters for all those sockeye in the canal nothing more exciting for a kid is lots of action. P.s. it's probally the same price as for 4 or 2 people
