MY new engine project.....

Well been working like mad to get er done finally got the moter in and flashed her up yesterday. found a machinist who does a great job and came higly recommend by many people did an awsome job on it.
You couldnt even tell the motor was running its that smooth the guy is anal about balancing. Had a normal 350 chev 290 hp now its a 383 stroker with roller valves and cam and should be around the 425 hp range.If any one is ever going to get an inboard done in vic area let me know and ill put you on to this guy one of my fellow guides is getting one done as well.

From what I see in the pic...... wouldn't it be a good idea to cut an inch or 2 off the spout?
And ya dont see too many sport boat with a bonding set up

Lip no what it is doing is going to sit in the water its only going to be in the water about 2 to 3 inches as the exhast system is what they call a "wet system" at the dock to be quieter as its just to noisy and wont stink as much LOL but up on plane you will get total effect and HP as now it will be completlly out of the water,and if you notice its on a slight angle to go over the trim tabs so any water spray from the boat wont go up the pipe as the trim tab blocks it.

If you look at the first set of pics you will see the muffler system in the boat and that big one in the middle is chambered as we tore it apart to look, even if water was to go that far up it is impossable to reach the engine we went with the angle just to be on the safe side.

All thats left to do is clean up and make a bracket for the remote oil system. and then ill be back for opening of halibut system. and put er in the water this weekend for a break in time of 2 hours low rpm then more then more boring as hell but me thinks brewing up coffee and bailys will be in order....

Looks real good. Nice to see it going back together eh? It would be good to see how much increase in speed you get over the pre build (after you have it broken in), if you could post some results on here, we'll keep watchin for them.

Nice muffler system, maybe I woun't hear you in the morning. I see we are running the same bonding system.

The break in period for me was a killer. It took for ever to get any where in those first few hours when traveling at under 2K rpms and to have all those ponys wanting to run and me (now you) want to try them out. The whole set up will be a great improvement over your last engine.

I was just joking about following you to the hali fish hole, I'll probably fish RR and see you at Jocks later in the day

just outta curiosity , what kinda performance ? ( top speed , rpm , - cruising rpm ..... fuel economy you expecting... )

I'll have a peak at a post ya had put together on the specs of ur install ,think ya said she was a stroker ? ( Great Motor ) have a funny story
ta tell ya one day , friend has one in Osoyoos , Power house !!

Took it out today to break her in WOT was 4800 so got to go to B5 props a bit more power.LOL LOLshe ran awsome!!!!!! more info to come.....

I've got the same engine in a 2350 Searay Weekender. Installed in 2007 with about 150 hrs. on it now. Works perfectly now but had some initial problems. Big cam and heavy valve springs. If I went over 4000 rpm I would push a pushrod right through the rocker arm. Happened 3 times WAAYYY out there in Milbank Sound. Replaced the rockers and the pushrods with aftermarket roller tip rockers and huge pushrods. Works excellent now. I can see a potential problem though as I am using a new (2006) Alpha 1 leg.....I am very careful to not wack the gas and try and treat the leg as gently as possible. Also, as my exhaust is going though the leg and not out the back like yours I am not achieving full potential. You have to fool around with the timing a bit but once you get it on the performance is truly amazing!

My performance numbers are: 3650 rpm = 26 kts. (gps) plus or minus 1 kts. re: tides and using 13+ gph. If I neck it back to 3200 rpm I will see 21 or 22 kts. but the fuel economy is much better at about 8 gph. I have never run my engine above 5000 rpm but at 4800 rpm I saw 34 kts. (gps) Makes a lot of noise going that hard and you can literally hear the fuel leaving through the 4 bll. carb. Oh, keep the flame arrestor spotlessly clean. I had some belt dust clogging mine up and performance went down and fuel cost went up.

THANKS for that yes took it out today and got it ready on the dock for tommorow AM. but with the B5 props on it today was doing 3200 rpm crusing at 27 mph opened her up and wot was 4400 rpm doing about almost 43 mph so im thinking thats the prop to be using will know more when i go for some long runs , i to went with roller cams and case hardened big rods so that engine will last a very long time so far gald i did and the thing is soo well balanced you cant even tell its running...
