Mush.....Comox Valley

True enough IG. Once you are introduced though, they are unmistakable. But, like brain surgery and poaching, best not to dabble.

This might sound stupid. But I am thinking I know where there are pines. While hunting along a planted pine forest 10-30 tall. I noticed white buttons popping thru the ground and some full blown mushrooms. I wonder if these would be them? Do they grow in pine forests? Being a pine mushrooms. Would they being growing in a planted forest once clear cut? If they were pines wouldn't the deer be digging them up? They seemed untouched.

Maybe its time to use Google. :)

Hey FA, they do grow in second growth for sure. The seem to like really thick, hard to pick ground cover too.

Why don't you pick a few and post up some picks. Make sure you twist them right out, don't snap them off. The shape of the base is a good way to distinguish from amanitas. And if you do any reading on them you will learn that the smell is also very unique. Once you know it, you will smell it even when there are no pines obviously up.

Owen, its a little late for pines now however there should be the odd one out there. If you wanna go check it out, we can go out tomorrow? Maybe find a deer? I know some places up in my area..

OK-- lets open this one up again!!! I need advice for freezing lobster mushrooms. Do they need to be dried and sliced first or just vac sealed and frozen??

TIA
