Mr Ghu, Hu & Liu got $2,300 in Fines

We ordered out for Scottish food last night. But we were hungry an hour later.

Exactly nimo , easy to find them if you concentrate , they come on line start an innoccuous thread with a little meat for those who delight in tearing into others of a different ethnic background then carefully add fuel to the fire.
Notice how unsubtle the changing to a different race type name with the same sly connotations fired at those they really have targeted , yep a long winter coming , too bad we don't concentrate on fishing and techniques which I thought this site was devoted to.
I talked with some members of this group who don't post anymore and it is plainly because of the rantings which occur on a regular basis that a large majority of us find unacceptable.

AL

Right on AL! The forum, much to my dissapointment, is doing Ghu, Hu & Liu a real nice favour by focusing on ethnic slurs rather than on the crime they committed!! Racist intentions... no matter how cleverly (but oh so obviously)"disguised", is actually good help for the criminals, who can now remain relatively anomynous(in the midst of their own ethnicity) because this forum's "slap-in-the-face" is ridiculously misdirected towards thousands upon thousands of innocents! Nice going folks...

Doesn't anyone have a sense of humour anymore. Geez methinks everyone is a bit testy after a lousy fishing season.

I'm with you barbender, a little light hearted change from the usual heavy topics...
lighten up boys !

To me, the size of those fines are a slap in our face. Soon we will see the D.F.O. and courts scared to prosecute another group of people. Soon the Scotts will claim rights to harvesting undersize crab and rockfish. I really think the rants on this subject is due to the frustration of the sports fishermen who follow the regulations.

That has to be one of the funniest things I have read on this site in a long long time. Well done Brisco...I will be giggling for the next 3 days.

Man, Some people really need to try real hard to pull their heads out of the sand and grab a dose of reality. To deny that the poaching has no cultural correlation is rediculous. A disservice?!???. How about a recognition that the problem DOES have cultural alignments and needs to be recognized and tackled by those cultures and races who are being dragged in the mud by their own people???

oh yeah AND those with their heads in the sand also need to get a sense of humour. this has been one of the wittiest threads in a long time:D

Let me get this straight... since when is "correlation" (cultural or otherwise) the same as "cause"? And who is it... exactly... in this instance... that drags a culture in the mud? It's the members of this forum... isn't it? Or some of them at least .. laughing all the way!

"Witty"? Yeah sure! Very "clever"... i admit! But personally I find the racist overtones in this thread quite disturbing! I'm with alley cat... unacceptable!

Brisco... I agree! Thanks for bringing the subject into it's proper context. Personally, I think the fine should be at least tripled and these guys should be BANNED from fishing FOR LIFE! But not because they're Chinese! (There... i said it... the dreaded "C" word!) Only because of their crime!

To make matters worse, a $2300 cdn fine is only the equivalent of $416 Yuan................ Now that fine really seems small! :( SS

Oooops, I screwed up doing the conversion..... $2300 cdn equates to 12699 Yuan............:) SS

They should have been fined in Pesos. That would equal 4.4 million pesos and that would be better because it is a larger number??

Might want to check your conversion? 2,300.00 CAD = 24,937.30 MXN (Pesos) Or, I quess you could date your comment and use "old" pesos! 2,300.00 CAD = 24,937.30 x 1,000 = ? (This is a multiplication test!)

Oh Yea, I didn't miss your point... I just don't see anything valid! :D:D:D

illegal possession of 13 copper rockfish and one lingcod, contrary to the Fisheries Act.

On April 14, 2008, Zhi Yong GUO and Ze Jun HU pled guilty, in North Vancouver Provincial Court, to illegal possession of lingcod and copper rockfish, and were ordered to pay the court $1,300 in fines. Both had their fishing licence suspended for one year.

If any of us where out fishing and caught some springs (that was supposed to be released) and DFO came by and checked... they would take the fish and give US a ticket for $100 CDN for each illegal fish; even though, they could: Take all our fishing gear, to include our boats! I have not heard of any sport fishermen losing any gear due to retaining illegal catch? But, I do believe there were quite a few tickets given out this year... and each person fined accordingly. The fine these people received is the same fine you or I would have received, which is in accordance with the law. Plus, they had their license suspended and forfeited their gear.

Now with that said… if they are caught again and for any repeat offenders who blatantly ignore the law and regulations… There is not a fine large enough! Throw them in jail and throw away the key! I am also okay with exportation!

Not sure my comments are worth 2 cents! :)

Just so everyone knows, though the Scottish imigration to your area is larger than ours south of the border, we have the same problem. The Scottish habit of harvesting until a resource is reduced to a non-viable population is very prevalent here. I think community service to help replentish the species or environment violated would be far better than a fine. The Scottish have a large ability to pool resources to pay fines, but take away their time and make them toil away during our balmy NW winter days would far more productive. I would even volunteer my time to "supervise" their progress.

Then I sure want to repeat the last part of my comments, with adding a sentence:

I found that to very entertaining. I have a scottish co-worker who I showed it to while he was eating left over home made scottish food made by his scottish wife and he thought it was even funnier than I did. He is fresh of the boat scottish(5 years ago).

Well done boys thank you for the comic relief.!!!!!!!!!!
