Moved to Vancouver

Hi,

I just moved to Vancouver from North BC.

Where can I go fishing without a boat? Shore fishing? What kind of fish can i expect?

Lake, river or salt shores?

Are you willing to drive to fish? LOTS of species to fish for, LOTS of spots, LOTS of times of the year dependant on prior questions.

People could type an essay here. ;)

Yesss i am willing to drive, not over 200 KM tho

Salt or fresh...i do not mind...as long as there is fish.
Gimmi what you got :)

where are you in vancouver?

if you asked really nice, someone might take you out for some winter trolling for salmon (its always nice when some offers to chip in for gas, snacks, bait or whatever)

I am in downtown Vancouver.

If someone would take me trolling that would be awsomeeeee ...id chip in for everythinggg.

Would need to buy a trolling gear thou lol.

Here are few simple options - within about an hour of Vancouver. Others just a few minutes away from downtown.

Jig off the pier at Ambleside for flounder, sharks etc, go up to Rice Lake and drop a line through the ice for rainbows. When ice is off, you can rent a canoe or kayak and paddle around Burnaby Lake dragging a leach or wooly bugger pattern. You could try your hand at steelheading on the Vedder or on the Sea to Sky, find a guiding trip/intro lesson on steelheading if you are new to it.

Like others have said, there are a million options including the local ocean for salmon. Come August, you can find some shore anywhere along the Fraser River (follow the parked cars) and cast for Pink Salmon. You'll have a blast with that i'm sure.

You might want to get a feel for the type of fishing you'd like to try, because much of it requires specific/dedicated equipment and tackle. If you give us a sense of the the fishing you have done in the past and what gear you currently have, we can provide options that can get you started without a lot of outlay. Then you can go from there.

As noted above, FishingwithRod has some videos to watch on fishing options (many of which are in the lowermainland and accessible) for beginners and beyond;

There are years of videos here beginning in 2010+

And one thing is you'll find this forum overall is a bit more saltwater centric with members out ON the water in boats. Not saying there isn't great freshwater/beach knowledge on here but you just don't see the topics raised too often in threads.

But yes....have a look at some forums like Rod's as he has a larger variety of topics and more guys that are not IN boats out fishing (ie. Shore, Lake or River). Use the search forum on here to look at the Fraser River fishery, beaches along West Van or the Cap Mouth.

As I said earlier....people could type an essay and not cover everything within a 2 hour drive from Vancouver, but you've essentially got the ENTIRE Fraser Valley and Whistler Corridor at your disposal within 2 hours.

Try calling the guys at Pacific Angler as they do plenty of courses and are located up by Broadway and Main.

One thing to be sure you do is read the regs....both tidal and non-tidal depending where you're going. Lots of things to be aware of down here.

float fishing off the "float bridge" at sasamat lake, pretty view and relaxing spot...
pm me for buntzen lake spots if you want.. those we dont want busy;)
