Hello
With a team of dedicated volunteers and the donations you have sent we are continuing to test for ISA virus in BC. The lab passed a detection milestone last week, sequencing a known strain of ISA virus from a Vedder chum salmon and finding a type of ISA virus that was involved in the 2007-2009 Chilean epidemic in an Atlantic salmon head purchased in a Vancouver supermarket. This does not mean these these BC viruses are related to those strains, only that they have the same structure, the same mutation.
Details can be found at: http://alexandramorton.typepad.com
These findings raise more questions, we continue to work to make disease in farm salmon public as I believe this is the only way forward.
Difficult times,
Alexandra Morton
