Hey guys, I'm heading to Mazatlan for a week on wed 18th. Definitely going to charter some fishing. Was wondering if any of you have any reccomendations for specific operators from personal experience or friends experience?

Mazatlan is a tough one...Most of the hard core boy's with either fish PV or Cabo long before Mazatlan but here's who I know of....

The boats and gear down there are usually suspect at best and the boats aren't usually delux but sometimes the fishing can be fairly decent.
I lost a 5oo+ Black about 8 years ago down there and it was only due to the crappy gear...

You can go to the El Cid Marina hotel complex, go down to the wharves, and walk along towards the canal. There are sport fishing charter outfits along there. On a good day there will be guys cleaning fish right there at the fish cleaning station. Talk to them, listen to their stories, and maybe decide who you would like to go with.
Also, go to TripAdvisor.com The forum section, Mexico, Pacific Coast, Mazatlan and ask for references there. Lots of people on that forum have the local knowledge needed to catch fish.
My 2 cents worth....Once you have fished Cabo a few times everywhere else seems to be an anti-climax. But.....You never know...

Also look into bass fishing. Mazatlan area is known for trophy bass.

Well Hooker,
How did you make out on your trip? Hopefully you got into some fish.

Never got out, too expensive, $500 US and up for inshore bottom fishing and I couldnt find anyone to split a boat with me. 6 guys from the resort went(full boat[V]) and they got a 8 foot marlin. Brought a chunk back and had it prepared for dinner. $1000 dinner though.

Went for Marlin about 6 years ago with a skipper by the name of Ernesto Guitirez (sp?) who had a 42 ft flying bridge job and was called the Alhambra , we hooked one sailfish and got into some nice yellow fin tuna he was a good guide and spoke reasonable English.
