That deckie is lucky skipper was paying attention and didn't panic, the boat was backing down on the fish when he went in the water. There are often sharks around after a big marlin being played to the boat, but the real danger was the boat running him down.

That happens more often then think. Guys in the chair have been stabbed as they can't get out of the way...you are a sitting duck!

I had a striper come at me while I was on leader this past month.
Scared the crap out of me as I was being a little complacent at the time.
It happens a lot in places like the Great Barrier Reef as they back down on fish really hard over there.

Stuff can go bad in a real hurry, we had a 100lb sail launch onto the deck one day and I remember well it was a lot of fish to dance around (read "away" from) with.
There is a video of a guy getting speared right in the head while sitting in the chair during a huge tournament somewhere.
